A lifestyle blog - Its a jumble from my world a bit of everything - loves, likes, lists.

A few weeks ago we celebrated our anniversary at Steenberg Wine estate with some wine tasting and then a ridiculously delicious tapas dinner at Bistro 1682, one of the two restaurants on the farm. This place is really a slice of magic hidden in the suburbs, it's the second time we have been there and I would highly recommend it if you are looking for a special date night location or a celebratory meal!

We started out with some Wine Tasting at the bar overlooking the lush lawn with the moody mountains in the background. Tasting start at R20pp for five wines from the premium and super premium range (if you buy a bottle the tasting is for free) there are a variety of tasting options that also include a cheese or food pairing, see here.

My favourite wine was the Klein Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc 2014. I love the label and the freshness of the wine with flavours of peaches and pears, pineapple and passion fruit.

We went specifically for the tapas which are incredible. This picture is a major lie because we had more than this! But I didn't have time to take more pictures because I was too busy savoury and revelling in the deliciousness. As seen below angel fish spring rolls, calamari,  three cheese fritters and patatas bravos (the most incredible potato chips you will ever eat).

And without a doubt my favourite - the Arancini- sundried tomato and basil risotto with paprika mayo.

They also have breakfast and lunch menu which I have heard people rave about, so always make sure you book! Stay posted with events that they host throughout the year here.

Let me know your experience and what you can recommend next time we go!

After years of having the beautiful Sea Point Promenade to walk and run along, I am finally starting to discover little hidden gems like the Liesbeek River Trail, in my new hood Rondebosch.  We have not walked the full length of the trail, only a small portion on route from our other walks, but it really is a little piece of heaven in the middle of the city and suburbia.

Its pretty safe and relatively busy with other walkers and runners, we have only gone on weekends so I am not too sure what it would be like during the week. Here are some pictures I have recently snapped from a few of our walks. We try walk on weekends because we both do a lot of sitting for work and studying. Its really nice that this lush trail is so close to where we live and so accessible - going to be making it a regular habit.

(pictures by Saturday Girl SA)

According to SA-Venues

" One virtually has to be a member of the Friends of the Liesbeek to be aware of this hidden gem of Cape Town. Unbeknownst to them, Capetonians can actually spend time strolling along the trail that lies along the 8 km Liesbeek River starting up near Kirstenbosch.

Sometimes spelt Liesbeeck, the river starts somewhere up on Table Mountain above Kirstenbosch and is regarded as the oldest urbanised river valley in South Africa. It then flows via Bishopscourt into Newlands, and then on to Rosebank, Mowbray and Obs where it joins with the Black River. The Two Rivers Urban Park is on land here between the Liesbeek and Black rivers. The Liesbeek finally empties into Table Bay at Paarden Island.
Part, or almost all of this walk, is trailed and follows from Kirstenbosch down through Fernwood (Newlands) where there is a paved path for prams and on the opposite side of the bank is Bishopscourt Village Park, popular for picnics.

At Paradise Road intersection there is a children's playground and all along here one can ride a bike or push a pram until the path peters out on Buckburn Road. A little further along the path takes up again, this time more applicable for walkers, on the other side of Sans Souci Bridge close to the Newlands Swimming Pool. The path runs until Dean Street Bridge.

The river now heads under Main Road but you can pick up it up again past Josephine Mill, along which there are benches. Continue with the path past Albion Spring and cross Rouwkoop Road and over a bridge, through Roslyn Park, where there are further benches and a grassy area.
You can persevere on to the interesection with Alma Road, where there is a path again and some lawns".

If you have walked the full route would love to hear your thoughts and if you have any other walks or recommendations for Newlands or Rondebosh area let me know!

Ok weird things make me happy - when I was younger my parents kept a humidifier in my room to help with colds and coughs.  I have always believed in using them and have been on the hunt for one for a while now and I finally found one at Wellness Warehouse a month ago and I cannot recommend them enough!

in action

Just to give you a bit of background
This specific one is called a Beautiful Aroma AirE Revitaliser  and it is a water based air purifier, air freshener, humidifier, vapouriser and nebuliser . It is completely environmentally friendly and is not harmful to pets or children. This particular make is not a warm air humidifier so it is low on electricity usage and has a range of non-toxic, alcohol-free Beautiful Aroma Concentrates that you can add to the water. I specifically selected the  Sandalwood concentrate that is a nice neutral smell and not too over powering - it also helps relieve insomnia and anxiety.

Benefits
  1. If you live in a small space this is really an incredible little machine, it gets rid of odour molecules from food, pets, and tobacco smoke.
  2. It helps eliminate airborne allergies such as pollen and dust.
  3. It helps relieve symptoms of hay fever, asthma, sinusitis, bronchitis, flu and colds.
  4. It covers a large area and is completely safe to use anywhere in your home/office.
  5. My favourite - it also makes a really therapeutic sound that can drown out noise.
  6. The great thing about it is it lasts up to 6 hours and has even longer lasting effects of anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties for up to 24 hours.

I use ours regularly and it really does work - we have a cat that visits us and we both suffer from general spring time allergies. Since using the Revitaliser I can also feel an improvement in my breathing and since I keep it on my desk its great for when I study, it helps provide background noise! Last night we cooked fish and ordinarily our very small flat ends of smelling of food but this little wonder worked its magic after I put it on for only an hour last night before bed and we woke up to a fresh smelling apartment!

If you have used one or are interested in using one I would love to know your thoughts!

If you are ever in Houtbay on your way toward Constantia (after the nursery) Keep an eye out for this place. Popped in yesterday. It is the most beautiful, massive vegetable garden I have seen. There is a lovely guy who does the garden and everyday he writes out what is available. You ca also choose from the garden not only the board.

My mom and I got the same thing and split it
In total our order came to R76. So worth it if you enjoy fresh veg. Here is what we got:

2x cabbages
2x bunch of green beans
2x gem squash
red onions
A LOT of spinach - you can't see it all in the pic.

Support local and eat fresh :)

I have always loved reading, but for some reason this year I have hardly read and I miss it. One of the things passed on to me was my dads Kindle.

Naturally I have not used it as I felt weird about it. it also had a lot of books my dad had read on it and it made me very emotional if I went through the books and read things he may have read before he passed away. But, my dad loved reading and always encouraged me to read. I actually had the absolute pleasure of growing up when I was little with parents who loved reading. My dad used to read to me every night from a massive story book.

So, I decided to put the Kindle to good use and I have downloaded a few books lately. Nothing can beat a paperback book or the library, but for current releases, top sellers and in terms of affordability, I have to say the Kindle is a pretty amazing thing.

These are my top 3 books for female readers:

 Bossypants -Tina Fey
Hysterical, blunt and totally honest. She does not hold back in this book. I am still reading it but so far I am in love! This book is an honest account of her life, the trials of growing up, her journey and her own experiences - which let me just say, she doesn't sugar coat! If you are looking for a good laugh and a reality check out of a superficial bubble, this book is a winner.

Girls in white dresses - Jennifer Close
Total chick book. BUT it is totally realistic and doesn't present the usual unrealistic romance rubbish that you KNOW does not happen in real life. It follows the lives of three friends (and extended friends) through varsity, their work lives, love lives and dealing with the influx of friends who keep getting married, divorced or having babies. I found it a quick and easy read that is current and realistic. Pretty sure we can all relate to some of the stories in this book

Living the savvy life - Melissa Tosetti & Kevin Gibbons

MUST READ! This savvy woman's guide is about how to work with your finances and helps identify where it all goes wrong in terms of spending. The aim of the book is to inform and enlighten female readers about how they can save money while still having a wardrobe full of wearable clothes, holidays that can be saved for and how to save money without being miserable about it, but rather ways of finding, attaining and maintaining balance.

Let me know your favourite reads and recommendations :)

Just over two years ago we celebrated our first valentines day at Llandudno beach, possible of the most amazing beaches in Cape Town. So we decided again to do it this year and do something we both love - chilled evening on the beach (while supporting the club). We came across an advert by the Llandudno surf and lifesaving club advertising a picnic sponsored by Kumala wines.
R200 for a couple (R100 each) included a French loaf, selection of meats, noodle pots, two dips Camembert cheese, other cheese, crackers, Lindt balls and a lovely lovely bottle of red Kumala wine. We actually did not finish all the food! It was really well organised and they had also catered for families so they vibe was fantastic and the beach was busy and buzzing. As it got darker the beach cleared out and it was just so nice to sit there and relax, reflect and enjoy :) A simple, sweet, chilled valentines day :)

As you know I am a HUGE fan of recycling clothing and have developed an appreciation for some gorgeous second hand purchases. People are often "put off" with the idea of wearing someone else's clothing.

People have the misconception that  second hand clothes are 'old and in bad condition', this is not the case always..... some of those items have never been worn (or are gently worn) and are in fantastic condition for seriously good prices!!!

So finally a great concept has hit Cape Town where you wont have to find yourself digging through dirty bargain bins and moth balls, instead, we now have Rewardrobe, a stunning concept that gives you the chance to raid some beautiful closets for accessories, shoes, and clothing!

See what organiser Christina from Event Star has to say about the best way to shop for the most stylish items for the best prices!

Recycle, renew, refashion your wardrobe

Rewardrobe Pop Up Sale: RAID HER RAIL!
Raid the Rails of Cape Town’s Most Stylish

On Saturday 2nd February, 2013 Rewardrobe hosted a Pop Up Clothing Sale at Quivertree Publications in Gardens.
The clothing sold at these pop up sales are sourced from the wardrobes of Cape Town’s most stylish and often most travelled.  Those interested in selling at the pop up sales have to complete the online seller application form at http://rewardrobe.wufoo.com/forms/q7x3p3/. All the clothing is sold on consignment and the sellers have the option of donating any unsold clothes to our supported charity - we donate to OnsPlek in town.

What buyers can expect when visiting Rewardrobe Pop Up Sales are great bargains on big brands that are difficult to find in Cape Town at reasonable prices.  These brand names include but aren’t limited to H&M, Zara, Mango, Dior and more!  There is also a seamstress on site that will modify any piece of clothing you buy at no extra charge.

If you’d like more information about this event or to schedule an interview with Christina Masureik, please contact her at 0799072193 or email her at Christina@eventstars.co.za

Last night I was spoilt by the boyf with a awesome surprise! I am a huge fan of surprises so this was really a treat. We arrived at Kirstenbosch Gardens and attended the
 the galileo open air cinema!

( this is the only pic I managed to get because I was beside myself with excitement and running around buying sweets).

I am so impressed by the organisation of the event and how well presented it was. Different tickets include various packages, ours was two comfy, warm blankets and the viewing of an epic movie. You could also hire ground chairs (by ACT 2 popcorn) as well as blankets. They had microwaves with various yummy popcorns available and amazing food vendors selling mouth watering delights (like seafood paella!). The weather was a bit chilly, but we were prepared with our lovely blankets and warm clothes. Most people had bought their own blankets, food, snacks and wine and arrived early so they could mingle and enjoy the setting.

The movie was Forest Gump, first time I have ever seen it! The best part was when the beautiful full moon came out and shone over the stunning location! Really a fantastic event, well organised, great facilities and loads on offer to keep you cosy and satisfy your taste buds!

The  event will be running weekly (usually on Wednesdays) and will screen a variety of films from foreign to documentaries  adventure sports and all time classics. For more information check out their site and book yourself a seat for the next event! Super romantic night! Also great to gather all your friends and share a night under the stars in the most amazing location!

Ps: Thank you boyf :)

"The Aspire S3 is truly designed to meet notebook users' needs, combining essential features of the smartphone and tablet PC, such as fast startup and Internet connectivity, with long battery life. Matched with its slim form, the Aspire S3 will provide a fresh experience and set a major milestone in the history of Acer's notebook development,” said Celeste Gibbens, Marketing Manager for Acer Africa

Let me start out by saying I am the person that technology seems to be allergic to. So when I got the opportunity to review and use the very sleek and ultra thin ACER Aspire S3 Ultrabook I was rather surprised and over the moon! My current laptop is ancient, bulky and certain buttons don’t work, some days it doesn’t work all together!

So…receiving this beautiful piece of machinery was truly a breath of fresh air. After using it I realised it isn’t me who repels technology… It was simply the case of using an average PC that didn’t suit my needs or functionality.
The Acer was my awakening to easy, functional and fast communication with mobility.

I received a press pack with some wonderful goodies to test out what the new Ultrabook offers. An ultra fast stopwatch to check its quick connectivity – 2.5 seconds and an ultra thin measuring tape to measure the sleek beauty – 1.3cm and weighs less than 1.4kgs. Not forgetting a much-needed fast action memory stick! Bonus! It is also equipped with a full-size Acer FineTip chiclet keyboard, designed for comfortable use and maximum productivity. All-day usability is assured by a super lightweight high-density battery that delivers up to 7 hours of battery life.

It also boasts a high definition digital/video playback, a 2-1 card reader that supports SD cards and multimedia cards and an Acer Crystal Eye 1.3 mega pixel camera and microphone. I put these all to the test and they proved beyond expectation!

The best part - being able to carry the Ultrabook around with me, it made my life so much easier! Fitting perfectly into my handbag (bliss) and since it had such a great battery life I was able to take it to varsity and then, if I had to attend any meetings or work on an essay or assignment, but wasn't going to be home straight away, its functionality made it great for me to use and to keep up to date with all my work and admin while on the go.

Often I work late at night on projects and assignments or I can't always be at my desk, this means that sometimes it needs to rest on my lap or bed. (especially when I relax and watch series or need to read online). Now you know that awkward heat that rises from your laptop when you put it on your lap, bed or couch? And you fear you may catch alight? Well, that is definitely not the case with the Ultrabook.

The Aspire S3 features a vent-free bottom so the notebook rests comfortably on your lap. Warm components are smartly placed away from the palmrest and touchpad area, so you won’t feel any heat discomfort. The fan motor is optimized to enhance efficiency and lower power consumption to help increase system battery life.

For the first time I actually felt like I could use technology to its fullest and not have to lug around a heavy laptop or worry about battery life. Most of all I felt like it was an extension of me, the stylish look and feel made me feel comfortable and confident in using it. I also found I was able to be more productive and motivated with my work. My fear of technology failure was overcome very quickly!

I can highly recommend this beautiful sleek piece of machinery and suggest you get your hands on one ASAP! Easy to use, functional fast support with light weight and stylish looks................. I am sold!

Pricing and Availability: Priced from R8 999.00 and available from Dion Wired and Makro.
