A lifestyle blog - Its a jumble from my world a bit of everything - loves, likes, lists.

The last four months have taught me a lot - I started a new job and a new role and a new year with lots of new challenges and growth and now we are halfway through this year and I cannot believe how fast time has flown again?!

What the last few months of life have taught me...

I have learnt that you cannot be fearful, its exhausting and time consuming and inefficient really

Failure is possible - get over it, do better, try harder, learn from it and move forward

Not everyone is going to love you, like you or adore you, but just be you - be kind, humble and friendly - because that is who you should be

Work hard because you want to, not because you have to

Be different - even if you are too soft or too hard, be what it is that you are and BE

Breathing deeply and unlocking tension in you mind and body is vital, try it

Drinking lots of water , like a lot a lot

Making time for your own health, you own body, mind and soul is the only way to increase productivity

Coming home to your love,  partner, pet, family, friend,  pot plant, just come and rejoice in that moment, rejoice in the feeling of greet someone special and do that every morning and night.

Remain humble and kind

Don't judge too easily

Be the person to believe in yourself - you can, you will and it will all be ok

Get thrown in the deep and swim up the stream, battle that current and push through the river bed grazing your skin, swim as hard as you can, because pretty soon you may be doing some badass synchronised swimming

Out of the darkness there will always be light

Love your loved ones, appreciate them even more when you are in a selfish space.

Call home, call friends, make plans and stick to them

Celebrate small victories,

Say thank you instead of putting yourself down

Stretch before you go to bed at night

Drink that glass of wine

Plan an overseas trip to Bali (even if its just to dream a little)

Be grateful for opportunities in life that take you out of your comfort  zone and open up your eye,

remember … it's nothing personal - its life and its a beautiful chance to grow!

Another major leave of absence and it is with good reason. We are entering our 5th and final week of Brand Challenge (Vega School of Brand Leadership). Possibly one of the best varsity experiences - it involves hard graft and lots fun, it challenges you to work in a group, work on a real client, break out of your comfort zone, apply what you have learnt, challenge what you think you know and forces you to take a leap of faith - in yourself and others.

Best of all……. it makes you laugh - all the time!

Last year I made new, amazing friends who I am beyond grateful to have in my life. This year I have had the most dedicated, hard working, enthusiastic and hilarious group and I would not have changed a thing about this brand challenge or having them as my group members.

I experienced what it means to work in a team, like a real real real team. To have strategy and creative work side by side, to watch people stretch themselves, to have team members sit with the group and support them, even when their own tasks are complete, until the early hours of the morning. Nothing more exhausting and satisfying that leaving campus at 2am in the morning.  Nothing more bizarre than having a day when you do leave campus early because you haven't in so long. Our group hooked up a coffee machine, bar fridge and a variety of daily ritual that are a constant laugh. Our group chat is active 7 days a week, if it's not filled with work it's filled with banter.

I have not seen the inside of a gym properly in more than 5 weeks. I have eaten everything and anything, mainly chocolate and monks. I have laughed so hard it hurts, cried from exhaustion and laughed and cried at the same time. I have challenged myself in every possible way and I have loved every second of it.

However, I have learnt I need to create more balance, more routine, and more skill in managing my time and my life. Find an exercise plan that is sustainable no matter how busy I am, prep lunch and dinners, make smart choices, make time for loved ones, for myself, for my work load, for a lot more yoga. Its all about juggling and I am hoping to figure it out and get the ball rolling soon

I am a sensitive soul. It is who I am and always will be. I believe it makes me a more loving empathetic person and I am learning that sensitive is not a negative word. Not everyone will like me, get on with me, agree with me etc etc. and that is perfectly fine. I have learnt that not everything is meant hurtfully, that people are passionate and heated, and express themselves differently which is an incredible thing.

I have learnt to listen. I am trying to listen more and really hear what people are saying.

I have learnt to let it go. There is no actual point in holding onto something to the point where it causes you some sort of distress.

I have learnt some people really do come into your life for a reason or a season. Some serve a purpose and will stay a very long time. Others won't. It is not the end of the world. I have learnt to forgive and actually forget people who are fuelled by jealous, insecurity and competitiveness, because I don't want those kinds of people in my life and I don't want to waste a second on them.

I have learnt to appreciate more than ever the friends who stay true, who never leave and are always there. A phone call away, a hug away, a car cry away. Real friends understand the concept of life been busy and don't hold it against you. Stop fighting for the people who are not worth fighting for.

I have learnt that I can't control every aspect of my life, of who I am and where I am going. I have leant that I can work hard, do my best and give it all I have, but I cannot and will not let anything consume me. I know that I need to relax more, laugh more, feel less guilty, feel more alive and a lot more grateful.

I always find nearing the end of Brand Challenge that when I look back, its not just a learning experience at varsity, its a learning experience in life. I want to be more patient, kinder, less anxious, not as hard on myself and more understand. I want to cultivate the friendships I have and remind the incredible people in my life how truly lucky I am and I want to just remember every single day:

I have so much to be grateful for, so much abundance, love and care. I have clothes on my back, food in my stomach, a roof over my head. I have had the opportunity to get an incredible education, to study and further myself. I have people in my life who love me, for me, no matter how nuts I am. I have goals, dreams and aspirations. I am the person that can make things happen and I will.

But most importantly I will relax more, look on the bright side more, let go of the past and anything negative holding me back. I will be the person I am, but also the person who stops to look at the beautiful sunset and take in all its beauty and just breathe. My friend Kristi told me that when I find myself getting overwhelmed I need to stop, feel my feet firmly planted on the ground and take a deep breathe, feeling the air fill my lungs, feeling alive, present, here, now, focused and just breathe.

Last few days of varsity holiday and coming to an end and this past week I have really been making an effort to work on myself as a person and also find some calm in my heart and in my mind.  I went back to yoga and it felt incredible to go and stretch out my body. Since moving I have struggled to find a class I really like and one that works with my timetable, so I am hoping my new timetable permits some leeway for these particular classes. If not, I will have to roll out my mat at home and make my own calmness. While I love gym and exercising, I do adore yoga, it stretches you in every possible way that helps to awaking you and push you a little bit further and to breath a little bit deeper.

The last few varsity holidays I didn't get to really have a holiday, so I have really enjoyed this one. I did a massive cupboard clean out and sorted throughout all my draws, clothes, make up and magazines. We really don't need a lot in this life, and we don't need to hold onto every material item. I am a hugely sentimental person and I like to keep everything that has a memory attached to it, but this time I thought of a lot of people who have nothing and could benefit from the things that I no longer use or have been sitting in my cupboards for years and simply gathered dusk from move to move. The whole process was weirdly very therapeutic! My neighbour had his door open and was playing Enya (the entire album) which made for a rather calming environment  instead of my usual frantic clean up mode. I was pretty ruthless and pretty honest and pretty stoked to have finished it off and dropped it at Nazareth House knowing that it will be washed, folded and specially hung in the charity shop or given to patients that could benefit from the things I donated. It really is a wonderful place and I have found two fantastic jerseys in the charity shop so pop in sometime if you live in Cape Town, (they do have one in JHB).

I went for a wonderful walk on Camps Bay beach with my friend Kristi the other day. It was so needed. She is like a soul sister to me and someone I can always relate to. The sun was out the air was cold and the scenery was just  beautiful. We walked the length of the beach and then sat soaking up some good old vitamin D on the rocks at Glenn beach. Really need to get out more and not just get too stuck in my routine, hello Cape Town is just too beautiful.

I started a gratitude journal which is making a huge difference in my life. No matter what kind of day I have had I make the effort to sit down before I go to sleep and write about my day and the things I have to be grateful for. If something bad happens in the day it simply cannot over shadow all the good in my life. Sure I have moments, honest moments and I write about them to, its good to get them out and on paper, but its nice to also affirm the good that I have in my life and appreciate it even more.

I am learning to be more mindful of myself, my body, my time, my friendships, relationships and my beliefs and ethics. I am working on my patience, my calmness and my focus. I am pouring energy into the right places and trying to not let silly things derail me or get me down.

I love this quote because it is so true. Often we cling to negative or bad situations, discussions, remarks, moment and memories which in actual fact do not deserve that much time, energy or space in our minds. Yesterday I had a really unfortunate incident which got me really worked up and super upset, straight away I thought what bad luck do I have. Wrong, its not about luck, good or bad, its life, and instead of letting it ruin my day, week and weekend I decided (after a few pep talks from boyf and friends) that it is not worth getting into a panic about. I will deal with it and sort it out. At the end of the day I was not harmed in any way and nor was my life or anyone else. The situation is repairable and will be costly but non the less it has come and gone. I can't hold onto it and let it over take my entire thought process. Simply not worth it. That goes for a lot of things in life. You have to not let it consume you. There is good in so many things and a moment of gratitude makes it all the more worth it

So this is an unedited, unistagram view from my bed. It isn't something you will find on some super stylish site for bedroom inspiration etc. But it is mine, all mine. My space and my view.
I have had to spend a lot of time here. Fun fact about viral meningitis - it can't actually be cured with medication (expect anti  medicines) the only real cure is rest.

Yes, as in no exercise, not even walking far to your car or round the shops or popping around the corner to a friend for a cup of tea. ZERO (like major rest from  normal daily life kind of stuff).Nothing like forced rest to make you realise how much you do in a day, how busy life is and how as humans we are pretty incredible creatures. Also a reminder that your head and brain take a lot of strain. It is so frustrating not being able to do basic normal things without experiencing pain. I am a self confessed overachiever and don't like being told I can do stuff, even basic stuff. All of this has again reminded me we take small things for granted, reading, writing, driving, walking, completing basic life tasks like cooking, sleeping, going to a birthday or for dinner.

Having to listen to a neurologist is pretty scary, I mean the man is no joke and with the thought of lumbar puncture number two looming in the background I have made sure I take the doctors orders, as difficult as they are. If anything I have learnt so far this year, it's that we are a million times stronger than we think we are, we can do so much on our own and are crazy independant, but boy oh boy, is it awesome to have people who care and support you in times like this, wow, they truly rock!

I am not superhuman, or perfect, and if one more person says "wow you have been sick a lot, or you're always sick hey?" I may suggest they be supremely grateful for their health and suggest they level with me and try a lumber punter before commenting  (joke). I think people often forget, you don't need to physically look like a sick mess to be actually sick. You can look pretty normal and be sick too.

Be kind to others, sick or not. Be patient if you are ill, be nice to yourself, respect yourself and reflect. Nothing like lying in bed, by choice or not and reflecting. Look at all the things you don't usually bother with. Use the time you are given in life, that allows you down time to really and truly think, rid yourself of worry and anxiety, feel appreciation and respect for the life you have been given, the bed you sleep in and your health.
