A lifestyle blog - Its a jumble from my world a bit of everything - loves, likes, lists.

I have written and rewritten this post so many times and every time it doesn't actually reflect what I truly feel and what I am really trying to say. So here goes giving it another shot. This year has been a lot about self discovery and my blog has taken a more personal tone. I am learning more about myself and my surroundings everyday and working hard to push myself and break boundaries. It is my final four months of varsity and I am taking in as much as I can and learning as many lessons as I can so I can really grow and flourish.

This post is based on personal experience and experience, stories and concerns that my friends and others in my life have shared with me.

Don't let people bully you. Stand up for yourself. Find a voice that is not harmful but one that holds truth and honesty. Be strong and stand tall, even if you have to do it alone. Be strong and speak up, even if you have to turn to someone else for help.

People with the smallest amount of power can abuse it. Learn from this, don't become like this.

Respect is most definitely earned.

Buy books, lots and lots of books.

Buy something on the winter sale that you know you will wear to death.

Get up and move, get out, go run, skip, hit the gym, hit the park, hit the mountain and feel the air on your skin, take huge gulps of air into your lungs and feel alive. Get rid of the aches and pains.

Don't complain constantly. Think of your warm cosy bed, that wonderful hot shower you had, the comfy pi's you sleep in, that delicious breakfast you ate, the comfortable dry clothes you are wearing, your car, your place of work or study. How fortunate you are.

Stand up for your beliefs and don't step down to please others. Be true to yourself and be tactful, not tactless.

Be yourself, not a copy of another person. Not wishing or wanting to be someone else, just be who you are - its a wonderful feeling to just be you!

Don't spend your life justifying or explaining yourself.. what for?

Have faith in your abilities, set goals, have dreams, have a light at the end of the tunnel.

Be grateful for the family and friends who consistently make an effort in your life and who are always there for you.

Make time for the people who deserve it.

Don't waste time on people who leave you feeling negative, upset or offend you in some way. It's a waste and that time could be used constructively else where.

Have a solid cry. One that washes away all your hurt and grief or pain.

Make plans and stick to them.

Reinvent your wardrobe, revive your old jewellery.

Do something nice and expect nothing back in return.

Understand not everyone will think, feel and live the way you do. Accept it and move on. We are all different. Don't try and change others or yourself for others, look deeper.

Believe that this too shall pass.

Keep a gratitude journal.

Make a vision board.

Buy a plant and nurture it.

Work hard, play hard, live hard, love hard.

Think before you speak.

Get off the defence.  Write down all your hopes and dreams and remind yourself everyday that this is your life and its here for YOU to live. Stretch your mind, your body and your soul.
Do it for you.

So once again life has been a little bit mad, please explain to me how people get married, have babies and work full time? How do these people do it? Secrets?

I am all about a little bit of pressure in life, I like to be stretched and challenged, it gets my blood pumping and my brain working. The past two weeks of varsity holidays myself and Emma have been doing an internship for two very, very cool companies (agencies)  involving an incredible project that will be shown in September.

I can't give away too much but you will see me start mentioning it as we go along. This internship has challenged me on another level, it is exposing me to how a PR agency works, how projects run, the merging of another agency and that no matter what, you will be challenged, pushed and inspired. Although I am studying brand communication, which we have been applying in the internship, we have also been working on strategy, learning the foundations of the project, assisting with creative, writing press releases, copywriting, experiential marketing,  working on a video , website, social media and all other digital platforms and attending meetings with some of Cape Towns finest from a variety of industries who will merge with this truly powerful project and help make it happen. This is the view from the office we have been working in. I cannot even begin to express how fortunate and lucky I feel to have being given this opportunity. How it has empowered me, made me focus, implement my skills, improve on communication and most of all inspired me.

Our lives as a couple are pretty insane, we both have mad schedules and the boyf is the biggest overachiever you will ever meet, more so than me! So we both end up putting a lot of time and energy into work and studies. But no matter what, I cannot express enough how grateful I am to have someone in my life who understands me and supports me in the things that I do. I also appreciate that he sings to me when we are in the car.

Busy times mean being a bit slack in the food and health department. But I try to make it work. It may sound a bit silly, but I am so grateful for my blender, because of it I get to make yummy nourishing smoothies that help my body function better. It's something so small but I feel fortune to be able to do this. My yummy recipe below is banana, apple, cucumber, berries, coconut oil and superfood powder.

I bought this bag from a man selling them at the robots. I often drive past him and he is always so friendly and so happy and each time I promise to buy one when I have cash on me. I have always wanted a pattern bag like this, so by chance I had cash on me that day and I bought it. I love seeing how happy he was and knowing how happy I am with a little purchase like this. Grateful that someone made my day and hopefully I made his day too.

As I mentioned above life is a little manic sometimes, but I truly appreciate the moments where boyf and I can have a moment to catch up and relax. Our favourite little spot when we are in need of an amazing coffee is Starlings. Such a gem of a place. Grateful for all the moments, conversations, good coffee, great service and lots of laughs we share there.

We finally got some weekend time to go out and experience some local beauty which we did at the truly beautiful Cape Point Vineyards in Noordhoek. WOW what an incredible place! We preordered a picnic basket and enjoyed the afternoon sun and spectacular view over looking the dam and long beach! Naturally we stayed for the sunset which just continued to change and was so spectacular. Whenever I see the sunrise or sunset I feel like its my dad, showing me something beautiful and opening up my eyes and soul. He would have loved this place. I always get tearful when I see a beautiful sunset because I wish he could be here seeing it with me, but I know he is somewhere else seeing the same thing. It is in these moments that I feel grateful for my life, for my ability to use my body and mind, to love deeply, cry hard, laugh loudly and ponder quietly. It is the moment where I feel overwhelmed and blessed to my core that this life is mine and I have to appreciate every single moment of it.

No matter how much complaining I do I really am grateful for my life and who I have in it, the things I get to experience, the people who love and support me no matter what. Thank you

Finally summer is starting to make an appearance on the weekends! Yay! These photos were taken as you drive from Bantry Bay into Clifton on the top road. Neil and I pulled over to watch the sunset with two delicious pizza's and ice cold Coca Cola!

I have been stuck indoors a lot lately. Still battling with recovery and then catching up a mountain load of work. Not ideal when the sun is shining! I am also studying for exams so its all systems go. On a positive note, I am seeing small improvements daily and getting my strength back slowly, it is hard not to push, but I am learning. Naturally provoked by the beautiful setting, I saw it fitting to write a list :)

  • Someone told me on the weekend - 'This is not a dress rehearsal, you only get one life, one chance, so live it'.
  • It's OK to cry - probably best to get it all out
  • Don't let people take power over you - stand strong
  • Be grateful for everything because we are so lucky in so many ways
  • Take time out to do the little things
  • You are so much stronger than you ever thought you were
  • Accept the kindness and love from those who give it to you - don't seek it from people you know could not be bothered
  • Drink in the beauty of your surroundings
  • Laugh louder and more often
  • Be patient with yourself and others
  • There is no time for drama - life is so short
  • Buy flowers for your home
  • Eat ice cream - it's basically summer
  • Exams are just that exams - not forever
  • Get excited about the future
  • Create an inspiration board
  • Read more - search for more
  • Remember everyone is human
  • Say nice things and be kind to the people in your life
  • If you lost a loved one - pray for them to be a peace - or simply chat to them - for sure they are listening
  • Believe you can do things and you will do them
  • Set goals - get excited

These are some personal lessons I have learnt lately. I like to share them, maybe they will help you too. When I say you, I really mean me in this list, Lol

  • Stop taking everything so personally
  • No need to be sensitive, it's not always about you (duh)
  • Don't lose faith in yourself. You would not have gotten this far in life if you were not hopeful
  • Don't expect answers from others, find your own
  • Strength comes from within. Really it does, not just a cool saying, you gotta dig deep!
  • Make proper time for people in your life, a call, a coffee, a face to face conversation
  • Less stressing about things days away, more enjoying NOW
  • Make you time, pamper time, chill time
  • Don't let the past year stress and pain bring you down, its the past for a reason
  • Don't paint nails or eat chocolates on top of bed white bed linen. Never a good idea
  • Give others compliments on their achievements and take an interest in their hobbies and activities more
  • Be more considerate. Stress is universal
  • Listen more speak less
  • Don't be so petrified
  • Less phone time
  • Laugh and smile, it's all good :)
  • Gratitude and grace - always
