This weekend proved to be a very busy, awesome one. Varsity work has been stressing me out to no end and making me feel like a total loser and maybe even a bit like a failure. It has also taken up a lot of time on the weekends. Sometimes when you push yourself and your not getting it and basically hit a wall, you need to stop, regroup and get out of the house!
So this weekend Cape Town spoilt us with some truly gorgeous sunshine and some time out! On Saturday the boyf and I decided to hire bikes at the pavilion in Sea Point and go for a cycle. What a great little work-out and loads of fun! We cycled to the Green Point Park and back. So much fun by the sea and great to feel the warm sun!
Sunday was an absolute treat! The boyf is a surfer, has been for about 20 years and is pretty much obsessed and skilled. I have always wanted to give it a go but been nervous about my back injury. Fortuntely yoga has improved my upper body strength and I felt like I could finally give it a go! Last weekend the boyf bought a new wetsuit and we saw how many learners there were out at Muizenberg. So this weekend off we went! What a fantastic vibe! Young, old, experienced, not so experienced all out having a blast! We hired an insanely large board, long and made out of some kind of foam (so I didn't risk knocking myself or someone else out) And we made out way down the beach.
Fortunately the boyf is incredibly patient and is basically a saint, so I felt really safe and really happy to have him teach me. I was pretty nervous and my feet went numb lolz. I now admire people who surf more than ever! You have to be a certain kind of fit and prepared. Surfing is not easy! I would say for a first try I did ok!
I practiced staying on the board (umm exhausting!) and going over waves. Yes, I did get thrashed, but then, its done and you try again and again. I managed to "ride" a few small foamy waves on my chest and upper arms ( think upward facing dog yoga position) and eventually on my knees. No standing (that will take a looooootttt of practice). There is a lot to remember and I chickened out a few times because waves looked "big and scary" when they are so freaking tiny.
The hardest part was not having an senstation in my feet or toes! I also have discovered muscles I NEVER had. My back is a bit sore, but then again I was arching like a maniac so now I know for the future to engage core muscles more and chill a bit. We had a ton of fun, loads of laughs, lots of fails and some wins. Glad I finally got to give it a try and would like to do it again. obviously having the boyf by my side most of the time made a huge difference! I love a challenge and love getting in the sea!
And I cannot lift my arms, walk or bend. ;) But soo worth it!

I am a huge fan of food! And an even bigger fan of fruit and veg. Shopping for one can get rather pricey and also rather boring. Years ago my mom used to get an organic crate but we stopped because a lot of the things were a surprise every week and often filled with things we didn't eat. Then my friend Brigid told me about Wild Organics (same place my mom used to get the crates form). She said she was really impressed so I went to check out the site...and..WOW.
You have three options, the mini bag R100, the standard bag R150 and the made-to-order bag. R200I opted for the mini bag. Every week you get something different and delicious. The best part is, you can now swap out what you don't like and replace with a fruit or veg of the same value. This is what this weeks mini bag consists of:
To order you simply register on the site and follow the steps. You pay by EFT and collect from a variety of collection points around the peninsular. I actually split the contents of the bag with my mom, ( so works out to R50 each) so basically double what you see (except for the beetroot-that is a full bunch). The site also offers hints and tips and they also sell cheeses, breads, dried fruit, bottled good and more!
here is my portion of the bag and she took half. The fruit and veg is obviously organic so it does not come out all perfect, which is actually what you want. Check out the website to learn more about the process and the organic farming they use. I swapped out my celery for leeks and I am really happy with the result, best part was everything smells really fragrant and fresh! So if you live in a flat or can plant your own wonderful organic garden then this may be the way to go.

This morning I did a 6:30am Yoga class and when I walked out the gym felling rather tired and a bit stressed (lots on my plate) I raced to my car to get out of the cold and while reversing out of the parking this is what I saw. Beautiful right?
I guess this day, month or week may not be going according to plan...but I am sure, well I hope! That it works itself out somehow and all this stress and anxiety to varsity will fade away. Its hard sometimes to keep believing in yourself, but I guess you have to keep on and every so often remember that you live in a beautiful place and are more blessed than you know.

The month of March was a bit of a crazy month. It really literally ended up been two weddings and a funeral. Possibly one of the craziest and all over the place months I have had. Some great times, a few cries, college stress, not enough hours in the day, flying to JHB and missing my family. In the midst of all the chaos, I got sick, so yoga and gym were not fully attended to like they usually are.
To be honest struggle when I am thrown out of routine, especially gym and yoga. I have mentioned in my earlier posts I cant make the all the classes in the week and I try practice at home. For the month of April I am going to strive to find balance and make time to look after myself and my well-being March was a eating, drinking, mourning, merry and celebratory month all rolled into one. Sometimes, well all the time actually, we cannot control what life will throw at us and what the next hurdle will be. Life is pretty busy and trying to find balance can be so stressful. But, I may not be able to achieve full balance but I can at least strive for a better balance and look for 20min a day to be calm, do some yoga stretching and relax.
Time to work hard, be inspired, put my head down and turn failures into victory's
Two of these books were gifts, one is from the library and the other borrowed from a friend.
And yes, I am kind of attempting to read them all, swapping them around! I do notice that lately I am enjoying self help books (not ashamed, get involved, some wisdom and insight is awesome :) and also reading some fun stuff!
My mom has always had great style and shopped very wisely. I always tease her and say she is a hoarder, which I probably am too, but secretly I love it! here are some of the beauties that my mom has passed on to me after keeping them for years and years! Don't throw out stuff that is timeless and classic, it can always be used and integrated into your wardrobe.
Red and burgundy leather bags with or without straps
RayBan Aviator original sunglasses (glass and all)
Really pretty costume jewellery earrings in red and purple
As you can see my mom loves purple and red

Always miss my mom and dad when I am away from them.
Not sure how I feel about winter....... I could do with a little bit more summer.
Be free of those who have let you down or hurt you. Not worthwhile holding things against them. Not everyone you meet is meant to have a vital place in your life. Take what you can from them and the lessons you have learnt and move forward. More room in your life for those who wish to be apart of it and treat you as an equal and value you.
To be in a relationship and not have to be attached to your other half permanently. To have someone that lets you live your life and is also a big part of it. The beauty of missing someone with all your heart and knowing that they are the only person you ever want to be with. Believe in yourself and your relationships, confidence is key.
Having a quarter life crisis is not so bad :) you suddenly realise how far you have come and that your silly days as an insecure teenager are well and truly behind you and your regrets should be non at all, you need to learn some lessons along the way.
Invest in good shoes.
Show a little gratitude.
Start listening, not hearing, but truly listening to what people say and have to say, you may learn something new.
Don't give up on what makes you happy, you believe in and what you want to achieve. Get knocked down, have a little pity party, but then get up again. You are the only one who can make the change in your life :)
I know I repeat myself, but I like repeating , it keeps me on track and reminds me, always :)
